Library staff members have excellent sources to learn about those hot items that just have to be seen or read. The best source by far has proven to be Sno-Isle’s own customers.
One customer recently raved about the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She claimed she watched it a number of times before returning the item. I decided to give it a try. Before I got the item checked out, someone else saw it and wanted it. I checked it out to the customer then put the item on hold and forgot about it. Eventually Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat arrived. I didn’t know what to expect when I put it in the dvd player but before the weekend was over, I had watched it four times and my spouse watched it twice!
There are many good musicals in the Sno-Isle Library collection. Elvis fans can find King Creole and Blue Hawaii. John Travolta and Olivia Newton John brought the musical, Grease, to the top of the charts. Don’t forget The Sound of Music starring Julie Andrews. Add Once Upon a Mattress and Paint Your Wagon for another enjoyable musical evening at home. Try these musicals from our collection and give a review. Suggest a few of your favorite musicals so others can share your experience.

I've always been into musicals, its mostly my mother to blame, as she raised me with a strong music backround. There are quite a few I would reccomend! My Fair Lady is always a classic, as is Fiddler on the Roof and State Fair. For those who like Frank Sinatra, try Guys and Dolls. If you want more of an artsy one, try Cats or Pippin.
Though you don't think of them that way, most of the classic Disney movies are musicals, like Robin Hood, Beauty and the Beast, and Mary Poppins. These are great ways to get kids interested in music and musicals without them realizing it!
Can't forget The Music Man, in my opinion the best musical ever. Clever lyrics, singable tunes, and of course the lead played by everyone's favorite person, a librarian!
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was a good musical comedy.
Treat yourself to a double dose of insanity, The Producers, 1968 starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder followed by The Producers, 2005 starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Both are available on DVD.
